Triangle of Sri Lanka. Lunch will be arranged for you on the way

and overnight stay will be arranged there and if you prefer, you

On this day, after your breakfast at Hotel Culture Club, we will
drive you in air conditioned comfort to ANURADHAPURA - the Royal
Capital built in 380 BC. After arriving at this Royal Capital,
you will see massive STUPAS (domed shrines) remains from Palaces,
Temples, Monasteries and Ceremonial Baths - all built by Sinhalese
Kings. Here you see the JETAWANA - the largest Stupa in the world
(400 feet high) which was constructed by King Mahasena in the
4th Century A.D. When you consider the major monuments of man
at the collapse of the Roman Empire, which was the last phase
of the ancient civilization, the JETAWANA comes third in line
with only the Pyramids of Giza surpassing this, the tallest of
which was 483 feet. Monuments such as these leave you rather amazed
as to how a tiny island in the Indian Ocean could have in so many
ways matched the achievements of the major civilizations of the
Ancient World of Egypt, Greece, Rome and India. You will have
your picnic lunch during this excursion while you are inside this
Royal Capital. After completing your expedition on this way, we
will drive you to Hotel Palm Village for your dinner and overnight
stay.
DAY THREE
The Royal Capital of ancient Sri Lanka was moved from Anuradhapura
to POLONNARUWA after the 10th Century AD. Day three will be allocated
to reach this relocated Royal Capital, built by Sinhalese Kings
during the 11th - 13th Centuries. The third day of your expedition
starts after breakfast. We will drive you once again in air-conditioned
comfort to POLONNARUWA through Anuradhapura. This drive across
one ancient Capital to another will be an exciting experience.
During this drive we will arrange your lunch at Hotel Royal Lotus
Girithale. After lunch we will drive you to POLONNARUWA to see
the relocated Royal Capital. There you can see Temples, Stupas,
The Royal Palace and The Royal Library. Here you will see the
12th Century University of Sri Lanka, which has been abandoned
and allowed to go into ruins. It is the only scientific spade
of the archaeologist and the imagination of the historians that
can piece together the skeletal remains of this educational establishment
known as Alahana Pirivena, and perhaps breathe a sense of soul
and life into it in order to understand the style of living and
its contribution to the ancient civilization of that time. After
seeing the monuments of this ancient civilization, we will drive
you to Hotel Giritale for your dinner and overnight stay. This
hotel, located in a position facing the Giritale Reservoir - a
man made lake built for irrigation purposes by the ancient Sinhalese
Kings, will provide you with serene atmosphere for the rest of
the evening.
DAY FOUR
You begin the fourth day of your expedition after having breakfast
at Hotel Giritale. During the morning session we will drive you
to see one the man made wonders built by the engineers of this
ancient civilization - the Parakrama Samudra - a massive inland
sea built by them under the instruction of King Parakramabahu.
Then we will drive you to see ancient, ingenious and complex irrigation
systems which distributed water from one man made reservoir through
an intricate system of channels of different gradients and other
artificial water works of every kind which were unique to this
ancient civilization. After seeing these engineering marvels created
by this ancient civilization, we will drive you back to Hotel
Giritale for your lunch. After lunch we will drive you to Habarana
Lodge to spend you evening at leisure. Your dinner and overnight
stay will be arranged at this Lodge.
DAY FIVE
On your fifth day after breakfast at the Habarana Lodge, we will
drive you for an unique experience never experienced before, that
is, to climb the Sigiriya Rock. This impressive rock which rises
200 meters out of the jungle, had been transformed in the 5th
Century by King Kashyappa into a fortress that became his Capital,
as he feared for his life. On top of the rock you can see the
ruins of the palace known as "The Heaven Castle". What remains
today is only the foundation walls of this once magnificent building
and the many fortifications. During the climb you will see the
Phenomenal Frescoes of young maidens. No one knows whom these
seductive beauties, painted in brilliant colours on the rock wall
represents. One can think of Heaven Dwelling Nymphs from a realm
of radiant light. King Kashyappa was a poet in construction and
thus breathed into the pleasant design of the Pleasure Parks of
this fortress, a sense of garden architecture, which is unparalleled
in the achievements of even the Persians of that time. You can
see this garden architecture at the bottom of the Sigiriya Rock.
After having this unique experience you will descent for your
lunch after which we will drive you to Hotel Culture Club again
for dinner and overnight stay.
DAY SIX
On this day after breakfast at Hotel Culture Club, you will get
an opportunity to wander across the breathtaking outback, which
over looks Kandalama Lake and Sleeping Soldier Mountain Range.
You will get the opportunity to spend the whole morning session
in this native flora and fauna environment. After lunch we will
drive you to see the Dambula Rock Caves, located in an isolated
rock mass. During the 1st Century BC, King Valagambahu used these
caves as his refuge from his enemies and which later turned into
a Rock Temple with an unique art gallery. Some of the frescoes
found here are over 2000 years old. But the present paintings
are from the 18th Century AD as these were restored by King Kirthisri
Rajasinghe. The caves contain perhaps the largest area of painted
surface in any Buddhist shrine in the world. We then drive you
back to Hotel Culture Club for dinner and overnight stay.
DAY SEVEN
On this day after breakfast we will drive you to the Bandaranayake
International Airport for your flight back home.
Anuradhapura
Polonnaruwa
Anuradhapura has been made Royal Capital by the King Pandukabhaya
in 380 BC. It remained residence and Royal Capital for 119 successive
Sinhalese Kings since the year 1000 AD when it was abandoned
and the capital moved to Polonnaruwa. You will see some of the
most famous as well as the tallest Dagobas of Sri Lanka, remains
from Palaces, Temples, Monasteries, Ceremonial Baths and the
Temple of the holy Bo Tree. This tree was grown from a sapling
of the very tree under which more than 2500 years the Buddha
found enlightenment.
To visit the well preserved remains of the city, which has
been the capital of Sinhalese Kings from the 11th to the 13th
Century. You will see the excavations, Temples, Dagobas, the
Royal Palace and the Royal Library. The most famous Sinhalese
King Parakramabahu the Great (1153-1186) has built in the environs
of Polonnaruwa an impressive irrigation system with many artificial
tanks interconnected with Polonnaruwa irrigation channels. The
reservoir near Polonnaruwa has been until recent times when
large dams were built in the mountains, the largest and most
beautiful artificial lake.

the King's Palace - "The Heaven Castle". What remain today are
only foundation walls of this once magnificent building and the
many fortifications. What remains to be seen and is worth the
difficult climb are the phenomenal frescoes of the Sigiriya maidens.

colours on the rock walls represent. One can think of them As
heaven dwelling nymphs from a realm of radiant light. En route
visit Dambulla Rock mass and it was here that King Valagambahu
took refuge in the 1st Century BC. He later turned the caves into
a Rock Temple. Some of the frescoes found here are over 2000 years
old and there is a colossal figure of the recumbent Buddha carved
out of the living rock some 14 metres long.
